by @tess.nakamura

the moon is a coin i cannot spend the sea does not remember any of our names you were a rumor i believed twice you never asked and i never stopped answering

the sky was the color of an unopened letter we were young and the light was cheap the wallpaper remembers the wrong colors my mother taught me how to fold a grudge

winter came in through the window we never fixed the highway hums the way you used to i put my grief in a drawer with the batteries the cold got into the bones of the house

i counted every streetlight home the map was wrong but the walking was right i keep apologizing to furniture i put the whole year in one suitcase

we sang until the neighbors forgave us
