every train sounds like leaving from here the streetlamp buzzed like a held breath i traded my quiet for a louder kind of quiet i am learning to be a room with the curtains open

we were young and the light was cheap i left the door unlocked for a season i keep apologizing to furniture you left your jacket on the chair like a promise

the tape hissed where your voice should be you never asked and i never stopped answering i counted every streetlight home your laugh survives in the hallway

i wore your city like a borrowed coat there is a version of us that stayed i keep the receipts of everything i felt you can hear the whole town breathing at four am

i put my grief in a drawer with the batteries i am learning the names of ordinary things again
